The first dog to fly into space was Laika, a female mixed-breed dog who was originally a stray dog on the streets of Moscow.
Laika was born around 1954, and his breed may include husky or other Nordic dog breeds Bloodline, may also contain terrier genes. Because stray dogs are better able to adapt to the harsh environment of space flight than domestic dogs, Laika was chosen by Soviet scientists as an experimental animal.
