Coagulation disorders in dogs can be life-threatening. Coagulation dysfunction is a bleeding disorder caused by a congenital lack of a certain coagulation factor in the internal or external coagulation pathway or acquired disease, drugs, diet and other factors. Common symptoms include bleeding from the nose, gums, digestive tract and other parts of the body. Severe bleeding may even lead to death.
For dogs with coagulation dysfunction, the treatment principles mainly include stopping bleeding, replenishing blood and preventing trauma. Hemostasis and blood replenishment are to control bleeding and maintain the dog's vital signs, while prevention of trauma is to avoid major bleeding caused by failure of wound coagulation.
