When a dog’s tooth is scratched and bleeding slightly, the wound needs to be treated immediately. You can use clean running water and soapy water to rinse the wound for at least 15 to 20 minutes, and then disinfect the wound with alcohol or iodophor. If the wound is not deep, you can directly consider rabies vaccination to prevent the occurrence of rabies.
Rabies vaccination is a secondary exposure prevention measure for rabies, and you need to go to the hospital or CDC as soon as possible. For wound treatment, in addition to cleaning and disinfection, if the wound is deep or creates a closed oxygen-free environment, tetanus vaccine may also be required.
