Turtles have no vocal cords and cannot speak. Unlike other pets, turtles can shake their heads and tail to tell you what they want to do. But sometimes, we have to know what the turtles want to do, and we need to find out what's wrong with them in time. This may be the time to save our losses.
Since turtles can't speak, how do we know there is something wrong with it? Looking at its actions, the turtle will have a series of actions before it needs to do something. Its actions are to tell you "what do I want to do", "what's wrong with me", etc. Knowing the behavior of turtles is equivalent to learning the language of turtles, which is also a required course for farmers.
1. Courtship and mating response
Each turtle has a unique courtship behavior. Some turtles become violent during courtship and mating. If you accidentally disturb them, They may attack humans, especially turtles with inherently ferocious temperaments such as eagle-billed turtles and snapping turtles.
When mating, the male turtle will flexibly lift up his front body and jump on the female turtle's back (this is why the male turtle's plastron is concave, because it is stable), and grab the female turtle with his front and rear limbs. On both sides of the turtle's back, sometimes in order to control the female turtle, the male turtle will bite the female turtle's neck for mating.
2. Egg-laying reaction
Most female turtles are the same. The egg-laying period is at 4 pm During ~9 o'clock, people climb up the sand pool to lay eggs. After determining the place to lay eggs, the female turtle will use her hind limbs to dig a hole of about 8 to 15 cm, then clamp her tail and lay eggs one after another. When laying eggs, the female turtle will catch the eggs with her hind feet and then slowly lower them into the mud. After the female turtle lays eggs, she will dig up the sand with her limbs to bury the eggs before leaving the sand pool.
By the way, if there are footprints in the middle of the sand pool at a certain point, it proves that there are turtle eggs under the sand, and you should dig them out carefully; usually the female turtle can lay eggs within a few hours. If the eggs are not finished laying, there is a possibility of dystocia, so farmers should observe them closely.
3. Response to illness
Turtles have different responses to different diseases. The common feature is: weakness of limbs , eyes are dull or half-closed, mouth opens easily, lips color is different from usual, head extends and does not retract, etc. Certain diseases have more obvious characteristics:
Pneumonia: floating, nasal congestion, breathing through the mouth;
Gastroenteritis: diarrhea, anal relaxation, going ashore, not eating;
p>
White eye disease: White secretions adhere to the eyes, which is the number one killer of stone turtle seedlings and is extremely contagious;
Cold: sneezing, runny nose, stuffy nose, love to scratch with forelimbs Eyes, reluctance to enter the water;
Anal prolapse: Reproductive organs fail to be retracted in time after mating and are exposed;
Fupi: The skin (limbs) rots and turns white;
Corruption: The carapace becomes discolored and soft, and in severe cases has a large number of small pits.
