California cats are actually California Shiny cats. The "natural" appearance of California Shiny cats is not derived from wild cats or inbreeding, but is bred based on eight different bloodlines. It took five generations of breeding to create the spot pattern of the California Shiny Cat, and it took six generations of breeding to successfully create the body shape.

Due to the difficulty of breeding, the number of California Shiny cats is still very rare. Moreover, this kind of cat is not recognized by the Cat Association even in North America, where it originated, let alone becoming popular and famous in other regions.
