Wow wow wow. After the previous evaluation and collection, I didn’t expect that the cat food of Wilderness Feast (hereinafter referred to as “Wildness”) would actually attract the attention of so many friends? ? ?
It seems like you are more passionate about it than me? So, what else can I do? In order to win your favor, of course I write. (Isn’t that very good? You praise me quickly, I’m listening).
Wildness, a representative of affordable natural foods in the United States, has become particularly popular in China in recent years. Since grain itself is very cheap, it is basically included in certain e-commerce platforms’ activities.
Let’s talk about what everyone thinks about wilderness cat food. Most of my impressions are that I eat too much and poop too much, and the shit smells really bad. In terms of price, the general acceptance rate is quite high (the annual price is about 31 yuan/jin. The special price is about 28 yuan/jin, or even lower).
But to be honest, the wilderness is actually not that good. Why? Let's take a look step by step.
Let’s take a look at the outer packaging first. I have to say that the packaging of Wilderness... well~~ is quite simple, with a hint of diamond style (Wildness is manufactured by Diamond Pet Foods diamond factory). There are no seals or convenient openings. It's just like the milk powder Mrs. Wang usually drinks in a dime package. It can be used immediately after opening the bag. Parents who are not used to using grain storage barrels should pay attention to storage issues.
In terms of design, although the Wilderness official website gives Lao Yang the feeling that their family pays special attention to beauty, so they have always emphasized that this is a packaging designed with oil paintings. It's a pity that I, a rough guy with a simple mind and well-developed limbs, really don't know how to appreciate it. What’s more important is the convenience of opening the bag and the ease of storage.
When it comes to raw materials, Wilderness is quite embarrassing. It does not meet the natural dietary needs of cats. Why? Look down.
Low meat content
As for the meat content, the first place is trout, OK. But second place goes to marine fishmeal, which would be great if it was fish. Not to mention smoked salmon, another fresh meat representative, ranked eighth. (ps: AAFCO stipulates that the raw material list must be sorted from high to low content)
However, the meat content cannot be said, after all, the price is there.
The proportion of plant-based materials is very high, and there are a lot of useless fruits and vegetables
It is great that the wilderness does not contain grains, but the ranking of sweet potatoes and potatoes is too high. Suddenly I had a sense of seeing now (commonly known as potato grain).
In addition, a variety of fruits and vegetables are added to the raw materials, such as tomatoes, blueberries, and raspberries. Although the official website of Wilderness states that it is for antioxidant purposes and helps balance the health of cats. But ultimately, cats don’t need it. It can even be said to be redundant. Cats are carnivores, dear.
The above explains why most cat owners report eating a lot of wilderness feces. After all, cats have almost no need for plant-based materials. Second, cats have a very, very limited uptake of plant-based materials. If it can't be absorbed, it will naturally be pulled out.
As for the nutritional value of the wilderness, the good thing is that the measured key indicators of crude protein and crude fat are not much different from the promised values, at least not like the false standards of some brands reviewed in previous articles. (Note: Although Wilderness has an officially recognized agent (Huilun), it does not have a Chinese label.)
However, due to the high proportion of plant-based materials in the raw materials, the nutritional value also has the same problem.
1. High proportion of plant-based protein
When I first analyzed the raw materials, I said that the proportion of plant-based materials in the wilderness is very high. And sweet potatoes, potatoes, pea protein, and potato protein rank very high, indicating that they provide a large amount of plant-based protein. In other words, 34.2% crude protein contains a lot of plant protein. What cats actually need is animal protein. Animal protein. Animal protein. (Manual emphasis, emphasized for the 800th time)
2. The crude fat is low, and almost relies on vegetable fat accumulation
Secondly, the raw materials include trout, marine fish meal and smoked In fact, the main thing salmon can provide is protein, and the animal fat it can provide can be said to be very little. However, canola oil is the only fat left, and that's vegetable fat.
Cats require a large amount of crude protein and crude fat to provide energy on a daily basis. When the crude fat itself is low, vegetable fat accounts for a lot. It's really choking for cats. It even goes against the cat’s natural dietary needs.
3. The salt content is not up to standard
As for the issue of water-soluble chloride (understood as salt), I emphasized it when I wrote about Bernardine Pure and Birich. Too low salt content has a great impact on the health of cats. It can easily lead to edema, neurological diseases, hypotension, and even shock in cats.
Sadly, the wilderness also suffered from this shot. The measured water-soluble chloride in the wilderness is only 0.04% (national standard stipulates: water-soluble chloride >0.3%).
4. Calcium-phosphorus ratio issue
Let’s talk about the calcium-phosphorus ratio issue again. Regarding the calcium and phosphorus content, although the wilderness does not indicate it. But the measured calcium to phosphorus ratio is 1:1.27, which is out of balance and my wilderness is huge.
(ps: The calcium to phosphorus ratio should ideally be 1-1.2:1, that is, 1-1.2 parts of calcium correspond to 1 part of phosphorus)
5. Carbohydrates are too high
p>
Although the carbohydrates in the wilderness are not as high as those of Now and Development Bao (up to 30%). But it’s not low, about 25% (ideally it should be 10%-15%).
This is also the reason why most cat owners report that wilderness cats eat a lot. After all, high carbohydrates can interfere with protein absorption. Furthermore, when the protein is not high in the first place, cats tend to be starved and eat more food.
Based on the above, the overall nutritional ratio of the wilderness is not good. Once again proven that it does not meet the natural dietary needs of cats.
Extra chapter
After talking about this one, I guess many friends are also interested in another venison formula. Sorry, the venison version is not as beautiful as everyone thinks.
1. The meat content is a mystery
Although it is a venison and salmon formula, the first place is chicken powder? The so-called venison and smoked salmon have already ranked seventh or eighth? ? It can be said that this is basically a solid chicken food. Oh no, I said it wrong, it’s chicken rice cereal.
2. The proportion of plant-based protein is very high
Same problem, although the crude protein seems to be much higher than that of the trout and salmon formula. However, just looking at the rankings of peas, sweet potatoes, pea protein and potato protein in the formula... I am afraid they contribute a lot to the 42% crude protein. Ying Ying Ying.
Come on, Lao Yang will say a few more words to summarize.
The problems existing in the wilderness have been clearly explained above. There are too many plant-based raw materials, resulting in a very unsatisfactory nutritional value ratio, and there are problems such as substandard water-soluble chloride. Taken together, it does not meet the natural dietary needs of cats.
But having said that, for friends with limited financial resources, choosing the wilderness is probably out of necessity. After all, the price increase of cat and dog food is not as fierce as usual, resulting in that there are currently very few options for affordable food. However, if the economic conditions are OK, Lao Yang really does not recommend that everyone choose the Wilderness Feast.
