Raising guppies requires us to adjust the water. The raising of every aquarist is a "battle" with changes in water quality. Guppies are our "protons". If we want protons to live well and the water quality is good, It’s not that good~
01 Basic elements
Guppies Water quality, the most basic guarantee: temperature, pH.
According to the most commonly used tap water fish farming method, we start from an empty tank and add tap water directly. The temperature is adjusted by mixing water or heating rods. The new fish are kept at a constant temperature and passed through water, which can be regarded as a breeding tank. The beginning of fish is also the beginning of changes in water quality.
We generally don’t need to pay attention to pH at the beginning. We can default to water quality of PH7.0.
The guppy is in the initial tap water, let’s calculate the sum and entry~
Let’s see what can “enter” in the fish tank and how it “gets out”!
02 In and out
1. What should be put into the fish tank?
①Fish food
No matter how often we raise guppies, we must feed them. Regardless of the brand of food, there are basically two types of food: protein and others.
Other types, including trace elements, vitamins and other substances, account for a relatively small amount and have little overall or single impact on water quality, so they are not considered for the time being.
Protein is the problem we want to solve when entering the fish tank~
Decomposing protein requires the participation of nitrifying bacteria, which can be plant-type or pure bacterial-type. The focus is on activity. Instead of adding nitrifying bacteria all at once, you can find the owner’s previous articles, which have detailed topics, so I won’t go into details here~
②Bacteria
There are three main sources of bacteria. Direction~
--Bacteria that are already in the water and have not been killed by the water plant, but meet drinking water standards~
--The air comes into contact with the water surface and enters the fish tank. bacteria.
--Bacteria carried by the fish itself!
There is nothing we can do about the bacteria in the water and the air. Only the laboratory requires a sterile environment to allow ordinary aquarists to achieve sterility. Most aquarists will lose the fun of keeping fish.
As for the bacteria carried by the fish itself, it is best to quarantine them for 7 days after buying them. Quarantine is not about prescribing medicine, but an assessment to see whether there are a large number of guppies within 7 days of normal feeding. Serious illness or death, cross-infection with old fish must also be considered, which will not be detailed here~
③Products
In addition to some reactions related to microorganisms and chemistry, the fish tank will also produce some dry garbage, such as fish scales, bones and other substances.
These products are not very toxic, but we need to change the water periodically to reduce their density.
The fish tank is much simpler, divided into gas and water~
The gases produced by chemical reactions or biological reactions are good and bad, including ammonia and oxygen. Carbon dioxide, as long as it is within the survival range of guppies, you don't need to worry too much.
Many aquarists here have misunderstandings. Guppies are upper-level fish, which do not consume much oxygen and do not need additional oxygen.
There is only one way to remove water - changing the water. Solid waste in the fish tank, or large biological waste, can reduce the density by changing the water.
