FIPV refers to Feline Infectious Peritonitis Virus, and the disease it causes is called Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP). This is a chronic, progressive infectious disease, mainly mutated from the coronavirus.
Most cats are infected with feline enteric coronavirus (FECV), which usually causes only mild gastrointestinal symptoms Symptoms or no symptoms. However, in some cases, FECV mutates into FIPV, causing the cell tropism of the virus to change from enterocytes to monocytes/macrophages, thereby triggering systemic immune responses and severe inflammation.
Feline abdominal distension is usually divided into two types: dry and wet. Symptoms of wet cat abdominal distension include listlessness, loss of appetite, elevated body temperature, gradual increase in abdominal circumference, and weight loss. Symptoms of dry abdominal distension include eye disease, jaundice, neurological symptoms, etc. Since FIP has a high fatality rate and is especially dangerous for kittens under 2 years old, it is recommended that if a cat at home shows the above symptoms, it is recommended to seek medical treatment in time.
