After a cat gives birth, the lochia usually takes 2 to 4 weeks to clear. Postpartum lochia is a normal phenomenon in cats. All mammals will excrete lochia after childbirth to clean up the waste in their uterus and birth canal, such as remaining placenta, blood, membranes and some secretions. Cats will also clean themselves by licking.
