I have raised 3 peony parrots, Green Golden Top, Violet and Purple Flash.
Although there is a certain gap between Peony Parrot and some parrots such as Monk, Little Sun, and Keck in terms of interactivity, it is still smart and cute. With a little training, you can still get a lot from raising it. pleasure.
The color of the peony parrot is chosen according to personal preference, but it is best to raise it by hand. It is relatively easy to train in this way, and it is much better than ordinary relatives.
I raise three peonies because I don’t like them to land on my head, shoulders and bed. After a certain period of rejection training, they end up on my hands and legs at most.
There are a lot of children and dogs around here, so since Peony has not yet been weaned, I will not let it leave my hands when I take it out. They are also very well-behaved. After I get home from get off work, I always let them out and let them move around freely. When placed on the ground, they will follow in and out, very cute.
In fact, it is okay to keep pets, but you must not spoil them. The status of the owner must be determined, otherwise the fun of rearing will be greatly reduced. I see many people letting peony parrots climb on their heads. In fact, this is wrong. The reason why the bird stands higher than you is to show that it has a higher status than you. If this happens for a long time, they may not listen to your training later.
Now I will summarize my experience in raising several parrots for everyone, which you can use as a reference.
1. Newly arrived chicks do not need to be put into the cage in a hurry
My parrots are all hand-raised and bought from friends. They are usually sent to me. They are not yet weaned. It's best to find a paper box at this time. I tore the toilet paper into strips and laid them underneath to make it a little fluffy and warm. Come back and change it every night. The milk powder I feed is all given to me by my friends, and it doesn’t matter what brand. They have been eating this since they were young, so it is not a big problem. Special attention should be paid to the fact that one day you will suddenly find that their crops are missing. Don’t make a fuss. At this time, they will basically stop sucking milk. I usually soak some millet and let them eat it by themselves.
2. Carry out necessary basic training in a timely manner
Generally, within a few days of feeding them soaked millet, I will try to feed them directly with millet in my hand. If they want to eat unsoaked millet, then I will start feeding the shelled feed and let them eat it by themselves. The millet is just as a reward for training. When they know how to eat things from your hand, you can start basic training for them at this time, such as getting started, turning in circles and entering the cage.
3. Refusal to train
Birds have rectal bowels and will defecate soon after eating, usually about 15 minutes to half an hour. If they are not refused training at this time, their feces may cause some trouble to you. From my point of view, they are not allowed to run onto my head and shoulders, or onto my bed. It's called training, but the method is actually very simple. When they tend to run onto your head or shoulders, you must take them down and criticize them (I know they don't understand). After a few times, they will It won't run on your head and shoulders, at least it won't run on your head and shoulders as soon as you get up.
4. Skill training
After the basic training is completed, you can train them in skills. train. In fact, the essence of training their skills is to use food to lure them and cooperate with passwords to let them form conditioned reflexes. I usually give them half a box of miscellaneous grains during the day, and when I come back at night, they have just finished eating the basic grains. At this time, I use millet to train them. Remember to feed them after each training session - this means that you have been training them. When they don't eat the food in your hand, don't listen to your commands, and look around and want to run away to play, at this time they are basically Just full. Don't put it in the cage right away, let them play for a while. Simple skill training includes: drilling holes, circling the bar, flipping the bar, sliding on the slide, coin toss, shooting, stepping on the ball, pretending to be dead, shaking hands, saluting, etc.
5. Companionship with each other
Raising a parrot and training its skills is a bit of a show-off. I think the more important thing is that the role of a pet is to accompany its owner (uh~~ A one-person dog like me). I usually give them a small amount of food after I get home from get off work, and then train them while I rest after eating. After they've eaten and played for a while, it's almost time for me to take a bath. I usually don't go to bed until after 11 o'clock in the evening, and I take a shower around eight, nine or ten o'clock. At this time, when I was playing with the computer, I would basically wake it up from my sleep and put it on the computer table. It would grab the mouse with me for a while, and then continue to sleep silently on my hand.
