1. Living habits of quails
1. Quails like warm and dry environments, below 15 degrees Celsius and above 30 degrees Celsius. The egg production rate decreases, and the optimal temperature for egg laying is 20-22 degrees Celsius. .
2. Quail are timid and easily frightened. Therefore, the breeding room must be kept quiet. They are currently kept in cages with a height of 15-25 cm to avoid taking off and injuring their heads when frightened.
3. Quail grow quickly and have a short lifespan. They only weigh 78 grams when they hatch, and their sexually mature weight can reach 120 grams at 45-50 days of age.
2. Breeding quail
1. Selection of quail.
Both male and female quails should be selected to be within three generations, well developed, disease-free, weighing more than 120 grams and plump. The red bulb above the male quail's anus is large and bright red; the female quail's abdomen is large in volume, three fingers wide between the free end of the pubic bone and the back end of the sternum, and two fingers wide between the left and right pubic bones. The ratio of male and female quails is 1:3. Raised in cages, mated naturally.
2. Incubation.
Select hatching eggs with obvious spots, moderate size, and normal egg shape within one week of production. After disinfection, place them with the blunt end upwards in a room at 25 degrees Celsius to preheat for 6-8 hours before starting to hatch.
Incubation management is as follows: Temperature: During the incubation process of quail eggs, the principle of "high in the early stage, flat in the middle stage, and low in the late stage" should be implemented, and at the same time, the "fetal monitoring" should be flexibly grasped based on the incubation season, external temperature, and embryonic development status. "Schwarm" is generally maintained between 38-39 degrees Celsius.
Relative humidity: The relative humidity in the incubator is maintained at 60-65%. The humidity can be increased to 80% the day before hatching. Ventilation: The embryo's requirement for oxygen is less in the early stage and more in the later stage; less in winter and more in summer. The vents should be opened regularly for ventilation in the first 8 days of incubation, and the ventilation should be frequent for the next 8 days. Turning eggs: From the time the eggs are hatched to the time they are placed on the plate 2-3 days before hatching, turn the eggs 4-12 times every day and night. Cool eggs: Open the door of the incubator and lower the temperature of the eggs. Each time the eggs are cooled, you can flexibly control them according to the specific situation. Use your eyelids to test the temperature and feel a slight chill. Egg inspection: The first test is conducted 5-7 days after incubation to eliminate infertile eggs and dead embryonated eggs; the second test is conducted 12-13 days after incubation to eliminate dead eggs. Hatching: Place the eggs on the hatching tray after 15 days of incubation. Take the eggs out of the egg tray and put them into the hatching tray. Increase the humidity of the incubator to 80% until the chicks hatch. The newborn quails can be taken out after their hair is dry.
3. Cultivating young quails
The brooding period of quail is 30 days. Newborn quails can be placed in a brooder after their hair is dry. The feeding management is as follows:
1. Insulation.
The brooding temperature should be maintained at 37-36 degrees Celsius on the 1st to 6th day of age, 36-35 degrees Celsius on the 7th to 14th day of age, 34 degrees Celsius on the 15th to 20th day of age, and decrease by 1 degree every day after the 20th day of age. When the temperature drops to 27 degrees Celsius, no insulation equipment is used, and the animals are raised at normal temperature of 22-27 degrees Celsius. Brooding umbrellas can be used as brooding insulation equipment, or ordinary light bulbs, electric mattresses, hot water bottles, etc. can be used as heat sources.
2. Drink water.
Baby quails should drink water within 24 hours after hatching. Generally, quails can drink water after they are placed in a brooder and have calmed down. It is best to drink 0.01% potassium permanganate water as boiled water, and then drink cold boiled water. Once drinking water, It cannot be interrupted.
