According to archaeological discoveries, jellyfish have existed on the earth for more than 650 million years. Jellyfish with a long history are called water fairies due to their elegant appearance and beautiful colors.

However, jellyfish, like octopuses, are notoriously difficult to raise. Despite this, there are still many friends who have entered the pit and started raising jellyfish, but they always ended in failure.

So how to raise jellyfish? What should we pay attention to when raising jellyfish?

If you want to raise a jellyfish well, you must make it live and eat comfortably. Jellyfish need good water quality, suitable water temperature, suitable light and food when raising them.

Jellyfish is known as the fairy in the water. Is it really difficult to raise? ? In fact, jellyfish are beautiful and easy to raise.

1. Water quality.

The majority of jellyfish are seawater jellyfish, and there are fewer freshwater jellyfish. Freshwater jellyfish are basically national protected animals, so we can only raise seawater jellyfish. So we need to prepare seawater. If we can’t find seawater, just use tap water and add some sea salt to mix it yourself. The mixing ratio is 3:1.

Because jellyfish cannot change the water frequently, after preparing the seawater, an ecosystem needs to be established to return it to the seawater. A filter needs to be installed in the aquarium to ensure clean water quality. It must be noted that when circulating and filtering the water in the aquarium, the flow rate of the water must be controlled and not too fast.

There are two disadvantages of flowing water too fast or too fast. One is that bubbles may be produced and harm the jellyfish. The other is that jellyfish have a very strong response to stimulation from the outside. If the water flows too fast, it will cause jellyfish to produce Excessive reaction is not conducive to its growth. If seawater is left for a long time, nitrite will be produced, which is very harmful to jellyfish. Nitrifying bacteria can be appropriately added to the seawater to promote the decomposition of nitrite.

2. Water temperature.

Jellyfish is a very delicate aquatic creature. It has very high requirements for water temperature. The highest temperature cannot exceed 30℃ and the lowest temperature cannot be lower than 15℃. These are the two critical values when jellyfish are on the verge of death.

The optimal temperature for raising jellyfish is 25°C. At this temperature, the body functions and health of jellyfish will be optimal. Above or below 25℃, the vitality of jellyfish will be obviously reduced. Therefore, when we raise jellyfish, we must install a thermostat in the aquarium to ensure that the jellyfish will always live in an environment of about 25°C.

3. Lighting.

Jellyfish does not exist alone. Its body contains symbiotic single-cell zooxanthellae. Single-celled zooxanthellae are a type of algae that have the same characteristics as algae, which is photosynthesis.

Because it is symbiotic, the presence of single-cell zooxanthellae does not cause any harm to jellyfish. All the nutrients produced by its photosynthesis are provided to the jellyfish to promote the growth of the jellyfish; the jellyfish will produce some nitrogen waste through metabolism, and these nitrogen wastes are one of the important raw materials for the jellyfish's photosynthesis. The two complement each other, so we must provide enough light in the aquarium to allow single-cell zooxanthellae to carry out photosynthesis.

However, it should be noted that the light we provide to the water surface should not be too strong, and it is best to be dim, because the jellyfish are almost transparent as a whole, and some jellyfish will emit light. Without light, we would not be able to appreciate the beauty of the jellyfish itself.

4. Food.

Jellyfish in nature survive by preying on plankton in seawater. Therefore, the food we feed jellyfish is mainly based on sea plankton such as Artemia, rotifers, and brine shrimp.

So how do we tell whether a jellyfish is eating and whether it is full? Speaking of which, I first want to give you some popular science about the digestive system of jellyfish. Jellyfish are coelenterates, so their digestive system is very simple. They only need to capture food and enter it directly into the coelenterate for digestion. The jellyfish's long tentacles and its parasols are all digestive organs. When feeding a jellyfish, the jellyfish will swim around in the water and absorb food such as brine shrimp under its tentacles and umbrellas for digestion.

We often see such a scene, that is, small jellyfish are fully wrapped in food, except for the umbrella cover, which is full of food. When feeding jellyfish, don’t feed too much at one time. You can feed it in small amounts many times, because you don’t know how much the jellyfish will be able to eat. If you feed too much, the jellyfish will not be able to eat that much, and the accumulated food will Destroy water quality.

In addition to preparing a good environment for jellyfish to eat and live in, what else should we pay attention to when raising jellyfish? I will discuss this issue from both the jellyfish and human perspectives.

From the perspective of a jellyfish:

From the perspective of a jellyfish, we also need to understand some small problems in its life, including the characteristics of death when it is on the verge of death.

1. Bubbles.

You need to pay attention to raising jellyfish. There must be no air bubbles in the water. Because if the jellyfish accidentally sucks air bubbles into the jellyfish wings, it cannot be discharged. When the bubbles accumulate to a certain amount, the jellyfish wings will be pushed open by the bubbles, causing the jellyfish to die.

2. Jellyfish tentacles are knotted.

There are many kinds of jellyfish with different tentacles. In the process of raising jellyfish, it is often found that the tentacles of jellyfish are knotted or entangled. Many owners will be very worried when they find this situation. Worried and wanted to help untie and straighten out the jellyfish tentacles. In fact, it is not necessary, because the jellyfish's tentacles can be untied by themselves. If someone helps to untie them, it may scare the jellyfish and end its life early.

3. Do not mix with other aquatic animals.

When jellyfish eat, they attach food to their tentacles and canopy. If other aquatic animals are mixed in, the food on the jellyfish will be robbed. If the jellyfish kept are small, they may be preyed upon by other aquatic animals.

4. The jellyfish turns white and loses its tentacles.

The body of a healthy jellyfish is basically transparent. When we find that the body of a jellyfish turns white and its long tentacles begin to fall off and break easily, it proves that the jellyfish is about to die, and we should remove such jellyfish from the aquarium in time.

Jellyfish are known as water fairies. Are they really difficult to raise? In fact, jellyfish are beautiful and easy to raise.

< p>5. The body shrinks and loses vitality.

Jellyfish have extremely strong reactions to external stimuli. When you find that the jellyfish doesn't move very much during feeding, and its body begins to gradually shrink, it means that the jellyfish is about to die.

From a human perspective:

From a human perspective, because most jellyfish are toxic, you must be careful not to get stung when raising jellyfish.

Behind every beauty there is a certain danger. Fairy-like jellyfish are not only beautiful but also very ferocious. The tentacles of jellyfish are densely covered with stinging cells, which are their hunting weapons.

If we accidentally touch the tentacles of a poisonous jellyfish, its tentacles will immediately grab your hand tightly and shoot out venom to paralyze your hand. The venom emitted by jellyfish has the function of decomposing proteins. If accidentally caught, it will take a long time to recover and may even be fatal.

Summary

It is undoubtedly very pleasing to watch the graceful posture of jellyfish. It is not difficult to raise jellyfish when the water quality is guaranteed. You don’t need large containers to raise jellyfish. Nowadays, you can raise jellyfish. Jellyfish have more and more friends. The reason is that jellyfish are easy to care for and beautiful.

At the same time, poisonous jellyfish are dangerous aquatic pets. Friends must consider carefully before breeding jellyfish and try to choose some common low-toxic jellyfish, such as moon jellyfish.
