For friends who keep parrots, raising a cute parrot is a very happy thing to show off. And now more and more people like to raise parrots from an early age, so that the grown-up birds are easy to tame and have strong interactions with people.

But when you interact with a parrot, you are often troubled by its habit of defecating everywhere. If it is pulled on the hand or the floor, it may be easier for us to deal with it. And if you pull it on clothes or on the sofa, you may need to spend most of the day washing and drying it. Therefore, even if many friends have their own parrots, they rarely let them out of the cage to play.

What should I do if my parrot defecates everywhere? Three steps to teach your parrot to go to the toilet by itself

Parrot defecates everywhere The situation is entirely due to the owner, in other words, you allowed it to do this, because you have not trained it to go to the toilet at any time or anywhere, so in its consciousness, it will think that it can go to the toilet anytime and anywhere.

In fact, for wild animals, they are able to control their own defecation. For example, when some parrots are hatching, they often stay in their nests all night. In order to prevent their excrement from attracting natural enemies, they will not defecate next to their nests, which means they can control themselves very well. No bowel movement at night. Since parrots are born with this behavior, we can make good use of it and adjust it to tame them.

For a well-behaved parrot, it can actually be defecation trained no matter how old the bird is. The most important thing when training a parrot to defecate is that you need to be roughly familiar with when your parrot usually defecates and what actions or signs it has before defecating. Under normal circumstances, smart parrots can initially learn to master their own defecation behavior in three or four days as long as they are properly trained.

The training of fixed-point defecation for parrots is divided into three steps:

1. Be familiar with and understand the factors that affect parrots’ defecation: Common parrots that mainly feed on feed defecate in about 20 minutes. once, while older parrots defecate once every 30 minutes. And some intervals are longer, even excreting once every 6 hours. Therefore, our first step should be to know the frequency of defecation of our parrots, and we should also pay attention to the impact of eating on defecation.

2. First put the parrot in the bird cage and observe its defecation. If you find it defecating in the cage, praise it verbally and let it out of the cage immediately. For a bird, this is the greatest reward from its owner. The word of praise should be consistent as much as possible, and this word should be used as a command to defecate in the future. Your parrot may not understand the owner's intentions at the beginning of training, but for smart parrots, I believe it will be effective soon after a period of training.

3. Estimated speed When the parrot next defecates, put it in the cage in advance. Observe and wait until it has finished defecating, then immediately release it from the cage and give it the same verbal praise. Just keep repeating the training.

Over time, when the bird finds you approaching the cage, it will defecate first because it wants you to let it out quickly. Once you've trained to the point where this happens, you've basically mastered it, and at least you won't have to worry about it getting pulled on you as soon as it flies out. On this basis, try to match the defecation command to further deepen the meaning of the command. Over time, they will control defecation until they hear the command and then defecate.

It takes a certain amount of time and patience to let a parrot learn not to defecate everywhere, and sometimes the training time will be longer. Learn to observe carefully during training. For example, most parrots will stick out their tails before defecating. At this time, you will know that they are about to defecate. If it is outside the cage at this time, you should stop it, but do not scare them, and then quickly put it in the cage or a fixed place to give the command to defecate. Rewards will be given when the arrangement is completed successfully.
