Eating horseshoe crab may result in a prison term of up to five years or criminal detention, as well as a fine. If the circumstances are serious, the offender may be sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment of not less than five years but not more than ten years, and a fine; if the circumstances are particularly serious, the offender may be sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment of not less than ten years, together with a fine, or property may be confiscated.
The Chinese horseshoe crab is a second-level protected animal in China. It is prohibited for any unit or individual to illegally hunt, purchase, process and carry it. Therefore, in order to protect rare wild animals and maintain ecological balance, we should strictly abide by relevant laws and regulations and avoid eating or hunting Chinese horseshoe crabs.
