Hydatid disease, also known as echinococcosis, is a parasitic disease caused by the larvae of the Echinococcus tapeworm infecting the human body.
It is the most serious chronic parasitic disease among human taeniasis. It, schistosomiasis and malaria are listed as three important parasitic diseases in my country.
02 Classification of hydatid disease
Hydatid disease is divided into two categories: cystic hydatid disease and alveolar hydatid disease. Northwest my country is one of the areas with high incidence of hydatid disease. 1. Mainly found in Sichuan, Tibet, Xinjiang, Gansu, Qinghai, Ningxia and other places.
Hydatid disease has a long incubation period, usually 5 to 10 years, and most patients are young adults between 20 and 40 years old.
The lesions are mainly located in the liver, and can involve multiple organs at the same time, mainly due to chronic consumption. The patient loses the ability to work, and patients with late-stage hepatic hydatid disease are extremely thin or have abdominal distension like a bulge; the 10-year mortality rate of untreated patients with alveolar hydatid disease is as high as 94%, which is called "worm cancer".
03 Sources of infection and routes of transmission

The adult worms of hydatid disease mainly live in the intestines of dogs, foxes, wolves and other animals.
Dogs are an important final host of Echinococcus tapeworm and also the main source of infection. When people come into close contact with dogs, the eggs on the dog's fur contaminate the fingers to form: eggs - hands - enter the human body through the mouth.
The eggs in dog feces contaminate vegetables, other foods and water sources, especially when humans and animals drink the same water source, resulting in: eggs - food or water - entering the human body or livestock through the mouth.
04 How to find out in time whether
you have hydatid disease?
Hydatid disease does not have any clinical manifestations in the early stage, and it is difficult for patients to detect it. It can be detected through B-ultrasound , X-rays, blood tests and other means to determine. The ultrasound images of hydatid cysts are characteristic, and the diagnostic accuracy of B-ultrasound is over 98%.
05 Cure and Relapse
Cure: The severity of hydatid disease can be improved and cured through early and effective treatment. .
Relapse: Patients with hydatid disease may relapse if they are not treated in time, or if the disease is severe and cannot be cured.
06 How to prevent hydatid disease?
"One deworming": Domestic dogs should be dewormed once a month;
"Two important points": Eat cooked food and pay attention to hygiene;

The main source of infection of hydatid disease is canines. It is transmitted through the fecal-oral route and everyone is susceptible. Therefore, staying away from dogs, maintaining hand hygiene, and paying attention to food hygiene can effectively prevent hydatid disease.
