06 [Diagnosis]

1. Microscope Examination: The scrapings at the lesions were stained, and a large number of microspores were seen under the microscope.

2. Wood's lamp examination: Some coats infected with Microsporum canis will show yellow-green fluorescence, but this is only a simple screening test. False negative and false positive results often occur, with a detection rate of 50%.

3. Hair shaft morphological examination: Collect hair or dander at the junction of lesions, prepare samples in potassium hydroxide, and find hair shafts infiltrated by hyphae and conidia to diagnose cat ringworm. .

4. Fungal culture: Collect hair from the junction of lesions and implant it into a fungal culture medium. A positive reaction (the culture medium turns red and the colonies are white and flocculent) can confirm the diagnosis of tinea feline.

07【Treatment】

1. Choose appropriate drugs according to the situation

1) For systemic lesions: oral medication + shampoo bath; for local lesions Shaving first: oral medication + topical medication or oral medication + shampoo medicated bath + topical medication. Optional topical medications: 1% clotrimazole ointment, 2% miconazole cream. (Generally not recommended for external use)

2) Oral medicine: itraconazole 5~10mg/kg (a drug already approved for cats, may cause anorexia, nausea, abdominal pain and elevated liver enzymes High. Contraindicated in animals with liver disease and pregnant animals), PO, SID or terbinafine 30~40 mg/kg, oral administration (side effects may include anorexia, elevated liver enzymes, gastrointestinal disorders), SID.

3) Shampoo medicated bath: Before using antifungal agents, it may be helpful to bathe with a shampoo containing chlorhexidine and miconazole (Avibao/Pet). Antifungal infiltration agent: 0.2% enconazole solution or 2% to 4% lime sulfur mixture.

4) Improve body immunity and skin resistance, provide nutritional auxiliary treatment, add unsaturated fatty acids, etc.

2. Treatment needs to be continued for another 3 to 4 weeks after subsequent fungal culture results are negative, before treatment can be terminated and rechecked every 2 weeks.

3. All persons who have been exposed but have no symptoms or asymptomatic carriers should receive preventive treatment. That is, topical antifungal lotions.
